The last day of the “weekend”. Warner, the artistic director of the theater held a theater board retreat tonight to kick fundraising into high gear. He asked me to put together some kind of small performance piece for the end of it. I enlisted the help of his wife, Thomasin, to do a 5-minute summary of the season so far.
As we got there this evening, the retreat was still in progress. Warner let us know that things were going pretty well, but a lot had been put on the table and that it was a bit tense at times. Not unusual. Theater boards are interesting creatures. Usually made up of people with good business sense and a strong dose of creativity. Often quite a bit of “type-A” buzzing around the same space. So we were planning a funny skit for the end, and we didn’t know if we would be loved or lynched.
Loved, it turns out. It seems that everyone appreciated the release of a good laugh at the end of the day.
And yes, today there was raw fish. Had sushi with Malia, Natalie, David and Jim tonight. I love sushi more than any boy from Wisconsin should.
